Welcome to Feburary!
This is the time of year where we start to see a break in the cold weather before it drops back down to freezing for a few more months…
‘fool’s spring’ is what it’s called.
We come out from under our rocks and feel the warmth of the sun on our pale skin.
Personally, I get excited for a few things:
Yard prep - getting things trimmed and cleared before the weeds and vines really kick into gear. I always feel satisfied clearing out honeysuckle, pruning trees, and bushes. Much easier to do when there are no bugs (or poison ivy)
Hiking - Getting in the woods before they are covered in leaves this spring. Being able to see the contours of the hills and cliffs is always special especially when they have snow on them still.
Gardening -Getting seeds organized, ordered, and planted thinking of the harvest ahead. Personally we do a lot of berries that are already in the ground.
Classic Missouri Winter: 10 inches of snow, freezing temps, and now 60 degrees
It snowed a bunch this past few weeks and up until recently there was still a beautiful blanket of snow on the ground. Personally I prefer to have snow on the ground if it’s going to be below freezing.

This snow lead to Lots of crashes across the state. As of Jan. 24th troopers reported 601 calls for service statewide. It assisted 78 stranded motorists and worked 100 non‑injury crashes, along with 20 injury crashes.
Since then there have been dozens more due to the aftermath.
Good news is the Weather is calling for Warmer temps (40s, 50s and 60s) which means….. lots of mud 🐾🐾🐾🐾
I’m excited to get out in nature and start planning the garden.
