Winter Storm Comin’: Snow, Maybe Ice too
Everyone is talking about this winter storm right now. We can feel the temperature dropping across the state as the cold wind cuts through to the bone.
Personally I love the snow. Fresh powder makes the world quiet and makes everyone slow down (especially on 270).
From what I’m seeing southern Missouri is likely to see more snow due to the humid air compared to the northern arctic air.

According to Ozark’s First, here is what we need to do to prepare for the snow🤣

But what is the reality?
Seems like more snow than ice
Most snow probably happening Saturday evening into Sunday
Cold temps in the single digits
What do you think? Do you like the snow?
Hunter Highlight: Luke Beaty, Lawrence County
“I didn’t shoot this deer for any records or anything else,” Beaty said. “I shot it for me, but in all reality, none of this would be possible without God.”

Luke Beaty from Lawrence County, successfully hunted a deer he had been pursuing for three years.
The buck, nicknamed "Cactus Jack," was spotted by Beaty after church in November. On November 10, while hunting near Pierce City, Beaty used antler rattling to attract the deer. Positioned in a tree saddle, he shot the buck with his compound bow from 17 yards. Overwhelmed with emotion, Beaty called his father, who taught him to hunt. They tracked the deer and found it 150 yards away. Beaty later had the antlers measured by the Missouri Department of Conservation, scoring 217 2/8 inches. The score will be reviewed for record books.

Predator Hunting Events
Missouri and Hunting goes together like butter and toast. I never realized how big coyote and raccoon hunting was. Like there are events and fundraisers based around this.
Have you done this type of hunting?
Below are a few upcoming hunts:

Animal Encounter: Monkeys on the loose in STL with a goat
Monkey’s running around North St. Louis has made global news!
Here is the timeline:

Friday, January 10, 2025 - Animal control officers patrolled the area based on continued sighting reports but were unable to locate the animals
Saturday, January 11, 2025 - A black-and-white goat was photographed on Union Boulevard heading northbound
Monday, January 13, 2025 - The St. Louis Department of Health confirmed that a black and white goat had been seen wandering loose in the same city where at least four vervet monkeys were spotted during the weekend

Welcome to the mom corner!!!
Hello! My name is Hana and I am a mom living in Missouri. I decided to steal a spot on the newsletter. Feel free to skip if you aren’t into mom content :) I figured I would share random things that pop into my ever multi tasking mom brain (if you know you know).
I am a stay at home mom, ex physical therapist, hiking enthusiast, and excessive gardener. Going from a high paced job to hanging out with babies and toddlers all day was quite the transition but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Anyways……this week I was thinking about hot drinks but I had a long list of requirements like less sugar, something my kids could enjoy without bouncing off the walls and destroying my house afterwards, easy to make…
Then I thought:
Does a hot chocolate exist without actually using chocolate?
That's when I learned about carob….
We have been making this recipe below!
To make it even better I add some vanilla protein powder or creamer in it. I'll also add this to my coffee.
A great part is it stores well in the fridge.
Carob hot chocolate
(it’s dairy free and AIP diet friendly if you're into that kind of stuff)
1 cup water
1 cup coconut cream
3 tablespoons carob powder (I get mine from Azure Standard)
¼ teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
